Breathing

The Second Stress Management Technique

in Your Relaxed-and-At-Ease Guide to
Stress Management Techniques

Breathing is the first thing we do when we leave our mother's womb and the last action we take while we're on this planet.

It is with us in every moment of this life.

Breath can be conscious or unconscious. When we're not focused on it, our autonomic nervous system makes sure it happens.

However, we do have the ability to consciously shift it. This single characteristic is what makes it so powerful.

With different patterns of inhaling and exhaling we can intentionally...

The breath of fire is used to increase energy and promote self-healing.

Using the diaphragm is not only relaxing...

... it is, based on my experience, the single most important stress reduction tool we have available to us... and IT'S FREE!.

When the diaphragm moves up and and down, it massages the vagus nerve which activates the relaxation response!

I LOVE the breath and I hope that as you learn how to use it and experience all the waves of relaxation that are possible, that you also will come to either love or greatly appreciate this incredible gift that is with us all the time.

I use it for healing, meditation, spiritual practice, Mindfulness, and self awareness.

I encourage you to take a moment and notice your inhale and exhale. What's happening in your torso? What do you feel in your nose?

If you're interested, in Time to Breathe and Relax: Guided Meditation and Relaxation Exercises CD or downloadable mp3, I offer a guided meditation that can help you relax by practicing breath awareness.

A little aside...

Do you hold your breath while checking your email?

As I was surfing the web, I found this interesting and informative article about email apnea. Apnea is a pause in your inhalation/exhalation cycle.

The author noticed that she and others around her hold their breath while checking email and working on the computer... And she points out the possible negative impact of "email apnea."

So... I can't say it enough... BREATHE
