Expressive Movement
I LOVE expressive movement... equally as much as I love
breath!
As a trained dance/movement therapist - which, if you don't know... and most people don't, is the psychotherapeutic use of movement to facilitate healing - I think... Expressive movement is a great way to... - Relieve stress and let go of tension...
- Have fun and express yourself...
- Work through unresolved issues...
- Discover more about who you REALLY are...
- Wake up in your body...
Here are some ways to use it on your own... - The easist thing to do is put on some of your favorite music and just dance around the room!
in your area and work with her or him. - Use
mindful movement
as a warm up... and then just follow your own body's desire to move... don't try to guide it... let your body move in the ways that feel right... and see what happens.
- Identify a situation you feel stressed about...
Notice how you feel in your body as you think about the situation... Do a movement that reflects how you feel... Let the movement evolve - repeat it, change it, let it get bigger... and see what happens... and feel free to make sounds while you're moving - that can really help the energy flow as well... Let your self fully experience your emotions shamelessly - don't hold back. If you stay with it long enough, the movement process will come to a resolution on it's own. If you stop mid-way, you'll probably still feel stressed and annoyed.
If you have questions about how to use any of these practices, don't hesitate to contact me.
