Life Purpose
the 18th Stress Management Technique
In Your Relaxed-and-At-Ease Guide to Stress Management Techniques
Life Purpose is one of my favorite stress management techniques. In fact, I've spent years exploring the question, what is my life purpose?. I believe living on purpose is incredibly important because when we do, we live in alignment with the Divine and our True Nature.
Everyone has been made for some particular work, and the desire for that work has been put in every heart.

We are each unique expressions of the Divine. We each have a special energetic signature or vibration. Have you noticed that every person feels kind of different - some are really bouncy and vivacious, some feel quiet and contained, other people are very physical and are usually doing something with their body... Each of us has a unique combination of energies that make up our Essence... it's the part of our self that feels eternal - it's that sense of "me-ness" deep inside. That is your personal Essence or Divine nature. We each came onto the planet to both express that unique energy and to evolve it. This is our Purpose. When you express and evolve this Divine aspect of yourself, then you're living on purpose. Your stress level decreases because you are one with All-That-Is and can feel a sense of Rightness about your life that nothing else can achieve. When we don't live in alignment with our life purpose, usually we experience discomfort, dissatisfaction, or disease because our inner Guidance system is talking to us... ...We have a built-in, inner Guidance system that helps us know when our actions, thoughts, and words are aligned with the expression of our Higher Self. When we don't listen to that inner Guidance system, our first indicator is a sense of discomfort. It could feel like constriction, something just isn't right... or maybe a small physical pain. If this happens to you and you continue to ignore the signals you're receiving, the discomfort will usually evolve into dissatisfaction in some area of your life - work, relationship, health, home, finances. Usually we have plenty of time to pay attention and shift our experience. However, if you don't, the "knock on your door" can grow louder. You might get depressed or experience a major upset like a disease, an accident, or losing a job. I don't believe that every disease, accident or challenging life situation is the result of not following your life purpose... but if you're experiencing a difficult time, think back... and ask yourself if you've had signs that the path you've been on is not right for you and if you've been ignoring the messages. If you would like to live on purpose, you can... - Discover your life purpose by exploring your unique attributes and interests and what you've been drawn to...
- Identify a reason that will call you to align your actions with your purpose
- Overcome the fear that arises as you consider the changes involved in following your purpose
- Write a statement of purpose and affirm it daily
- Use your inner Guidance system to help you discover and stay aligned with your purpose
- Consider aligning your career with your purpose.
I personally have been intrigued by the question of whether or not our work and purpose need to be related to live "on purpose." I have come to the conclusion that purpose is more about how we do things than what we do. However, when the how and the what we do complement each other then a fullness of expression can be achieved. If you're feeling stressed regularly, you're probably NOT living a life of meaning and purpose - because if you were, life would have a sense of ease about it and challenges would probably be easily overcome.
