Massage Therapy
the 12th Stress Management Technique
in your Relaxed-and-At-Ease Guide to Stress Management Techniques
I think that massage therapy is one of the most enjoyable stress management and relaxation techniques you can find! I love receiving a massage... for me, it feels great. Have you ever received a massage? If you haven't... I highly recommend trying one and seeing if you like it. What happens when you get a massage is that your massage therapist asks you a few questions about your health and what you're looking for in the massage - like relaxation or healing. And then she or he will leave the room while you're getting undressed and onto a treatment table and under a sheet. You can leave your undergarments on if you want. If you don't, check with your massage therapist for her or his style. If you don't want to get undressed, you could try a seated massage. And there are many other forms of bodywork where you can leave your clothes on and still get a lot of stress reduction benefits - like... - Shiatsu
- Reflexology
- ZeroBalancing
- Energy Balancing
- CranioSacral Therapy

- it's a great resource! Usually the massage therapist uses some kind of oil or cream and gently or firmly massages all the muscles of your body - including the ones in your face and feet! You can ask your massage therapist to use a stronger or lighter touch... For me, I need a deep, strong touch or I feel tickled. However, I have a friend who needs her massage therapist to be very gentle and light because she's much more sensitive. So we're all different - Don't be afraid to ask for what you need. And if the massage therapist can't accommodate you, then find another. There's plenty of wonderful ones in the world.

You can go to a spa... Or see a massage therapist at a wellness center or her or his home office - depending on where the therapist practices - and where you feel comfortable going. Sometimes the massage therapists who have their own practices (rather than work at a spa) have a more holistic and healing approach. But find what works for you! And if you're still wondering if you want to try a massage, this link will take you to an article on the
benefits of massage
- many of which help with stress management! There are times when massage therapy might not be relaxing. If you are wondering if it's right for you, feel free to contact me and I'd be happy to help you out with that decision. Otherwise, try massage once as a treat or get one regularly. And have a wonderful and relaxing time...
