Stress Reduction Methods
In Groups and By Yourself
I recently had an opportunity to participate and observe stress reduction methods in action during a day of relaxation and rejuvenation. I was invited to present at a Washington, D.C. association's Wellness Day. I had the honor of offering two sessions on this Wellness Day - one was a lecture/discussion on "Getting Rid of Stress" and the other was a guided relaxation session using guided imagery meditation. Other facilitators offered NIA, yoga, chi qong, and meditation. In addition to the sessions I led, I participated in NIA - a kind of mildly structured and free flow dance/exercise class - and a session on guided meditation. At the end of the day, I felt balanced, centered, connected to others, and at ease. And many of the participants expressed gratitude for the special experiences they had enjoyed. Also, one of the participants shared that what was really helpful was hearing how stress affected everybody present... and "getting it" that she isn't alone. Hearing about how the other participants experienced stress and its impact on their lives helped her to demystify her own experience. On this website - Relaxed-and-At-Ease, I have written about twenty of my favorite stress reduction approaches - most are things you can do on your own or self help techniques. They include healthy lifestyle practices like breathing, eating well, and spending time with friends. Stress reduction methods also include relaxation, shifting your thinking, and using the Law of Attraction and manifestation to invite a relaxed and at ease life. However, what I realized at the wellness day I participated in is how valuable it is to also gather in groups. So I encourage you to consider exploring stress reduction seminars, wellness days, and retreat days. Take classes with other people as well - like meditation, yoga, and other types of movement classes. When we gather in groups - and together - relax... ...We create an energetic field of peace and oneness. This field completely counteracts one of the main causes of stress - living in a hierarchical culture. And... it sure feels good to learn with and from others as well. In the meantime, try a free online meditation right now, and go from stress reduction methods to meditation and see what you notice.
