What is My Life Purpose?
Have you ever wondered for yourself... "What is my life purpose?... Why am I here?" Your life purpose is to express and evolve your unique, personal Essence in a way that serves others. To answer the question... "What is my life purpose?" There are three steps... - Discover your personal Essence - what's special about you
- Identify your interests - where you want to grow, learn, and evolve
- Explore how you can combine your personal Essence and your interests in a way that serves others
1. Discover your Unique Gift or personal Essence.
I don't think it's easy for us to discern our personal Essence because we are already living it - being it. We don't see the specialness of who we are - we take it for granted. However, these questions can help you begin to explore it... I would suggest either writing your answers or saying them out loud - this helps to increase your clarity. Ask yourself... - What is unique about me?
- What do I contribute to any situation that no one else does as well?
- What do I just do - why do I do these things?
- How do I do what I do?
- What drives me?
- In any situation I'm in, what experience, quality, or way of being do I make sure shows up if no one else does it?
Ask a few people who know you and you trust... - What do you experience in my presence?
- What do you know, feel, or understand because of me?
- How would you describe my unique contribution to life?
| Often others can see us easier than we can see ourselves - however, be aware of the possibility of projection - so listen for what feels true to you. These questions can take months or years to explore - be patient. Be with them and the idea of life purpose.
2. What are your interests?

- What in others do you want to fix or change? How do you want to do this?

3. How can you serve others?
Once you've answered all of the questions above, you're much closer to answering, "What is my life purpose?"Now... Brainstorm... How can you combine the expression of your personal Essence with your interests either as paid or volunteer work... or as a past-time activity. I believe that if we can align what we do with the expression of our Essence, in a way that serves others, we are living a life of purpose. It doesn't matter how big or how small the work is - how many people we work with or how few - all purposeful work serves us all. When you name this "correctly" you will feel a sense of completeness deep inside. The energy and resources you need to act on your purpose will become available to you.
I've explored the question, "What is my life purpose?," for years. Now that I have some clarity about it, I have a sense of non-stop drive - a desire to just keep working on manifesting my purpose - that helps me overcome fears and get out of my own way. I don't think it's easy to identify life purpose... however, if I were to answer the 3 questions now - My personal Essence is something like... - The change from winter to spring
- Creative - Bold - Courageous
- Leading change
- Possibility
My interests include... - Personal transformation - Psychotherapy - Healing
- Spirituality
- Personal growth tools - Manifestation
- Marketing - Attracting clients
- Movement - Breath - Body centered approaches to wholeness, awakening, transformation
How I can serve others by expressing and evolving my personal Essence seems to look something like... - Educating people about embodied tools that support personal growth, healing, manifestation, and spirituality through articles on websites, workshops, classes, books, CDs/mp3s and DVDs.
- Helping other conscious business owners grow their business using manifestation and marketing through information on the internet, workshops, classes, books, CDs/mp3s and DVDs.
- Being a person who practices embodied skills so that my vibration continues to rise and positively effect all who I come in contact with.
So if I were to answer right now - "What is my life purpose?" - I think the best answer is... My purpose is to hold a field of possibility and positive change so that humans can evolve into our next level of consciousness. Of course, if we talk in six months or six years... I might be saying it differently...
Many people ask "What is my life purpose?" as they explore what they want to do for work. Some people begin to think about purpose when they get to be middle aged and start to long for more meaning in life. Others of us who have faced death or a challenging life experience, upon recovery, decide to explore what really matters. No matter what your situation or age, discovering life purpose is worth it.
